It happened to me too. At Artpark, Lewiston NY 1981 during rehersels of the American Premiere of Phillip Glass' SATYAGRA:
As the assistent stage director I was standing in for Gandhi for a tv "rehearsel pre-view". The scene (The Vow) is very dramatic: Gandhi stands center stage surrounded by the angry chorus. One steps to Gandhi to spit him in the face. (It's in slow motion on this repetative minimal music.) So John, the one who spitts, and I are counting - murmeling : 1.2.3.4; 2.2.3.4.;3.2.3.4.;1.2.;2.2;.1.2.3.(x8) and then comes the 1-2-SPITT! The choreus sings staccato: HA-HA-HA-HA-ha-ha-ha-hah HA-HA-ha-ha.ha-ha-HAH!(8x) It's not a laughing Ha! It's sanscrite and means NO! (or so) First time John (still remember his name!) takes this deep inhale on the 1.2.;2.2; and lost count and said "Ooh, shiiiit!!!" I said no, it's spit! Not shit! LOL! Okay! Take two: ... the deep inhale and I murmeld "no shit". He swallows, start kaufing and we all - the whole chorus too - were ROFL! It took several minutes before Take three. Then a short giggle was heard behind me and I bursted out laughing. Some minutes later Stand by...Take five! Me: umph..ahaha! LOL!, the whole chorus and crew ROFL! Okay, sorry, hehehe, drying my tears... Ahum, yes, heheh, deep breath, yes okay, I'm readdy. Take six: Biting on my teeth, holding my breath half way not to laugh... wrong,just to long: my face was swelling and turning red... and John gigled and... I was spitting all over the place LMAO again. We tried another half-a-dozen times but suddenly I was really wetting my pants and had to rush to the bathroom and LMAO in tears. Entering th rehersel hal with some spotts visible caused another outburst of laughter by chorus and crew and me of course too. From then on every 5 or 10 seconds: hmpppff... LOL! After 30 mins we had to take another scene or there wouldn't be a tv promo. :)) Often wondered if WKCO-Buffalo would have kept this blooper series.
